Schindler India earns green factory rating

Schindler India, a leading provider of escalators and elevators, has been awarded platinum certification for its manufacturing facility at Chakan in Pune by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

IGBC Green Factory Buildings is the first rating program developed in India, exclusively for the industrial sector, reports Accommodation Times. It is based on accepted energy and environmental principles and strikes a balance between known established practices and emerging concepts. 

The platinum certification was awarded as Schindler initiated new initiatives like solar energy, packaging pallets reuse, recycling of TPU and maintaining the water and energy conservation measures.

Schindler’s manufacturing facility has been in operation since 2014. The sprawling, world-class campus houses the elevator factory, a 71-meter-tall elevator test tower, the global R&D center and the upcoming escalator plant. Schindler India is committed to growing the elevators and escalator business in India, officials said. 

Schindler has been reaping the benefits of reduced energy and water consumption by around 30 percent, enhanced indoor air quality, good daylighting, health and well-being of the occupants and safety of the workmen.

Schindler India has partnered on several prestigious infrastructure projects in India, like the new Mumbai International Airport, Terminal-2, the Chennai International Airport, the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Airport Metro, the Mumbai Monorail, the Kolkata International Airport and metros in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Noida and Nagpur.
