Indian pharmaceutical plant earns LEED gold
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) LEED-India has awarded its prestigious gold level rating to Phase 2 of ACG's capsule manufacturing plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED-India) green building rating system is a nationally and internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, reports Pharmabiz.com.
The award was presented to ACG representatives at the IGBC Convention recently held at Mumbai.
ACG ACPL, Phase 2, Pithampur implemented various sustainable measures, such as infrastructure for rainwater harvesting, usage of recyclable material during construction, optimal usage of natural resources and installation of energy efficient equipment/systems. The management employed methods for preventing soil erosion/carryover of soil from site during construction. It also provided various amenities/facilities for employees in and around the site like public transport, courier services, bank/ATM services, prayer areas and medical assistance.
Commenting on receiving the rating, ACG Associated Capsules' CEO Selwyn Noronha said, "ACG has achieved many sustainable milestones along the way in terms of health, education and environment. These undertakings are a part of ACG’s comprehensive approach to build a community that promotes healthy design and sustainability. Achieving IGBC Gold Rating underscores our profound commitment to preserving the environment."
LEED applies in context of the “green building” concept, which is a facility constructed and operated incorporating energy efficiency and environmental conservation in mind. Leaders across the globe have made LEED the most widely used green-building rating system in the world. For India, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) set up by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is a strategic alliance partner for evaluation and certification of a building / facility under the LEED program.
LEED certification provides independent verification of a building, allowing for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, cost-effective buildings.
LEED projects earn points across nine basic areas that address key aspects of green buildings consisting of Integrative process, location and transportation, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and regional priority.
